At the Avondale Heather Curling Club Prizegiving Dinner on Saturday, one of
the longest serving members, Willie Frame of Haspielaw, was presented by his
son, Don Frame, with a RCCC medal to recognise 50 years of curling and
membership of RCCC. Willie started curling in his early twenties with Hamilton
and Thornyhill Curling Club and progressed quickly through the ranks,
demonstrating his real understanding of tactics. He played at Scottish,
European and World Championships as well as in all the Ice rink and Club
competitions. Willie was part of the first Scottish team to win the European
Championships. Some years later, he joined Avondale Heather Curling Club and to
this day thoroughly enjoys the competitive as well as the social side of
curling. He moved into coaching some of the younger members, including some skips who
now play and are winning regularly in the Heather. All of Willie's immediate and
extended family curl. Willie is a great inspiration to the Club and everyone
learns when they play alongside him. To commemorate this fantastic achievement,
RCCC (Royal Caledonian Curling Club), present the medal to only a few every year
across Scotland.
